This is a community dedicated to in-depth essays, infodumps, and extensive explorations of topics for general audiences. Whether you're passionate about science, history, technology, or culture, this is the place to share and discover detailed analyses and discussions.

## What Goes Here?
We welcome all sorts of on-theme posts of all sorts. This is a place for medium- or high-effort posts, and the main goal is to foster a community that encourages engagement, appreciation, and thought. The following types of posts are encouraged:
- **Original Essays** are the most preferred content here. This could be an original essay about literature in the 1800s, a list of facts about your favorite kind of shark, or anything else that (loosely-interpreted) constitutes an original essay.
- **Curated Bookmarks** can be a lot of fun. This is a good community to share a list of bookmarks or citations that let people do their own deep dive. This could be anything from "My top 100 resources for learning about sourdough bread" to "My collection of academic papers about climate change in rural Asia".
- **Links and Citations** for deep dives that are published elsewhere can be interesting. This is especially useful for video or interactive deep dives that (due to upload size restrictions) aren't directly compatible with this community's interface or (due to copyright restrictions) can't be posted in full on this community.
- **Ask Me Anything**, particularly if you are an expert on a topic and would prefer to let the community guide your discussion. For example, "I have a PhD in medieval food, ask me anything!"
- **Requests** can be an interesting way to crowdsource high-quality resources. Think "Where should I start if I want to learn about moss?" or "Seeking essays about Wes Anderson's film style".

## Rules
1. **Adhere to the [Instance Rules](https://reddthat.com/post/9701).** They can speak for themselves.
2. **Post quality content.** This is not the place for shitposts, clickbait, or superficial commentary. Users should contribute thoughtfully and meaningfully, prioritizing quality over quantity. The best posts are in-depth essays, thorough analyses, and well-researched infodumps that contribute to an engaging and fulfilling discussion. Posts that are obviously AI-generated are not welcome.
3. **Respond with curiosity and wonder** rather than uninhibited rage. Please disagree where appropriate; it's helpful for constructive discussions. Just keep it civil. Think "Can you tell me more about x?" rather than "That's wrong you imbecile!"
4. **Respect copyright and other laws.** If someone else owns a copyright to something, respect that. Even though many people (including the author of this rule) believe that many copyright laws inhibit growth and knowledge sharing, please use one of the many legal ways to share knowledge without violating copyright laws instead.
